Help With…

Cancer

Since starting my practice in 2007, I’ve supported clients with a wide range of issues, including stress management, anxiety, and weight-related challenges. Over time, I became increasingly interested in how hypnotherapy could support people in more specialist areas.

I went on to complete additional training in the use of hypnotherapy to help manage some of the side effects associated with cancer treatment, while also supporting the emotional resilience needed during difficult times. Although hypnotherapy is not a medical treatment, it may help reduce anxiety, improve sleep, ease discomfort, and support emotional wellbeing during or after treatment.

If you’d like to learn more about how hypnotherapy may support you or a loved one through cancer treatment or recovery, I offer a free initial consultation, either in person or online.

Mind-Body Connection In Healing

While hypnotherapy cannot cure cancer, it can provide valuable emotional and psychological support alongside medical treatment. Research, including studies referenced by Cancer Research UK, suggests that hypnotherapy may help reduce anxiety, improve sleep, and support overall wellbeing. Hypnotherapy may also help people feel calmer, more in control, and better able to cope with treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Many find it improves their overall quality of life during an especially challenging time.

While medical treatment focuses on the body, hypnotherapy supports the mind – helping you manage the emotional side of treatment and recovery.

Nausea

Some studies, particularly involving children, suggest that hypnotherapy may help reduce anticipatory nausea and vomiting, a common side effect during cancer treatment. This can occur when the mind associates previous treatment with feeling unwell, leading to nausea before the next session. Hypnotherapy may help break this cycle by calming the mind and reducing anxiety.

Needles

Many people dislike injections, but for those undergoing frequent medical treatments such as chemotherapy or tests, the experience can feel overwhelming – especially if there is a needle phobia. Hypnotherapy for needle phobia can help reduce anxiety and make injections and other medical procedures feel more manageable and less stressful.

Self-Empowerment

A cancer diagnosis can leave many people feeling out of control and reliant on medical staff for guidance. Hypnotherapy may help restore self-confidence and a sense of focus on the future, supporting a more positive outlook beyond treatment and recovery.

Hot Flushes

Hypnotherapy may help with blushing and can also support the management of hot flushes, which are commonly experienced by those taking tamoxifen. One study found that women undergoing breast cancer treatment who used hypnotherapy experienced fewer and less severe hot flushes, along with improvements in anxiety, depression, and sleep quality. Pain

Interventions such as lumbar punctures and bone marrow aspirations are among the more painful aspects of cancer treatment. Hypnotherapy may help manage pain and reduce anxiety associated with these procedures. Click here to read a study on the benefits of hypnotherapy for pain relief.

Immune System

The emotional and psychological impact of a cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming. Stress can affect mental wellbeing and overall resilience, which is important during cancer treatment. Hypnotherapy may help patients manage stress, build emotional resilience, and use positive visualisation techniques to support a calmer, more balanced mindset during treatment and recovery.
